Scope and content

Freda Bradley, born April 13th 1927, died April 14th 2017 always took a full part in the life of Bampton right from her childhood and she was proud to be born and bred here. She wrote a lovely book about her life here which has proved to be a delightful social history of Bampton. Her father was a builder and re-built Bourton Cottages in Church Street. Coming out of the library in the old Grammar School if you look up at the gable end of Bourton Cottages you can see a figure set in a recess in the wall. Freda's father found this when digging the footings for the cottages and didn't want it to be lost, whatever it was and wherever it was originally situated. A search using Freda's name on this website will bring up many photographs which will give you a further idea of Freda's contribution to her life in Bampton. She was such a lovely lady who had the most pleasant disposition, she smiled automatically whenever she spoke with you and there can't be many people whose life was not enriched by spending time with Freda.
