Scope and content

'Rocky', Ernest Hunt in the Elephant and Castle. Rocky was a much loved character in Bampton, always taking part in any event. He was known as Dicky to his family. When Ernie died, his birth certificate showed his real name was Ernest Bishop. Rocky entered items in the horticultural annual show, in the Pumpkin Club annual grand weigh-in and most notably always entered the great shirt race for the fun of it, not with any intention of trying to win, in fact, he and his partner were always last but their transport and costume had always had much care and thought put into it.
Rocky’s mother had a great sense of humour and can be seen laughing as she sits in a pram, made ready for the shirt race, at Castle View farm where she worked.
There is one photograph of a football team, Weald Swifts 1922 football team with some supporters. The tall man in the middle is Mr. Hunt, the father of Ernie.
