Scope and content

These photographs are all from the first half of the twentieth century. Frank William Hudson's father was William Cooper Hudson, his grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Townsend nee Portlock and his grandfather was Alec. Frank's Aunty Dora was Teresa Dora Townsend and her brother, always called Son but real name Albert Thomas married Mary McGee; Dora's sister Gladys was Gladys Amy Townsend. Alex was a very innovative man; while running the Elephant and Castle he reared pigs at the back and had them slaughtered there. He later moved across the road when he bought Castle View Farm and not only farmed but got probably the first lorry in Bampton which he used to get coal from Bampton railway station and then deliver it. He had a lovely carriage and horse which he used to take people to and from the railway station and of course he farmed and kept a spotlessly clean farmyard. Frank was raised by his grandparents at Castle View farm after the death of his mother when he was just 7 weeks old. There is a lovely film of Frank talking about his family on YouTube https://youtu.be/vSL61dJF4LA This not only gives you an insight into Frank and his family but a good bit about life in Bampton in the twentieth century.
