George Dafter was known and loved throughout Bampton. He was a postman here for 28 years after joining in 1950 and on his 65th birthday, he retired and was present with the Imperial Service Medal by the Post Office. George also helped the SPAJERS -Society for the Preservation of Ancient Junketing set up to give the town fun while raising funds for the senior citizens - and in recognition for his many years of voluntary service, the chairman of the SPAJERS Paul Bovington presented George with a tankard. 1968
