Scope and content

Eric Stroud was a builder. His daughter Stella was married to Les King and they had a shop right opposite this store. Les, Stella and Eric helped Dolly start up the hardware shop initially selling items that would have been used in the building trade, but in the end, she sold so much more. Rita Govier said:-

"I worked for Eric and Dolly Stroud for about 10 years; they were a lovely couple. If anyone needed something we didn't have, it was ordered and arrived within a day or two. When the space around floor and shelves was full then it went on hooks on ceiling- good old days."
