This account of Frank Tanner born February 23rd 1895 has been written by his daughter Vera Elward. It is a really interesting account of a young man who worked at Harvey Nichols in London, emigrated to Australia and worked on a sheep farm, was called up into the Australian army and fought in France where he was badly injured. He was listed as missing by the Australian Army but had actually been shipped back to England from St Omer and was in hospital for year. Eventually listed dead by the Australian Army. He had to go back to Australia to be officially demobbed, on arrival in Gunnedah people took him to the war memorial for him to see his name on it. He died in 1980 after 58 years of marriage.
