Scope and content

This booklet was produced by the EFDSS and is reprint No8 done in 1957. It is about William Nathan 'Jingy' Wells 1868-1953 and most of the content is a transcription of a recording with Jingy made in October 1952. He talks about what makes a good fool, the Bampton tradition and goes on to talk about several dances/tunes - Constant Billy, Old Tom of Oxford, Bonny Green Garters, The Quaker, Lumps of Plum Pudding, The Maid of The Mill, The Rose Tree and Banbury Bill. He talks about meeting Cecil Sharp, then about Jogging To The Fair. He talks about his one-man tours. There is a list of the 22 six handed dances that Jingy knew, 4 jigs and several older country tunes. There is a note by Russell Wortley titled 'Notes of Bampton Dances Today'
