The first one of these two YouTube films is of Ray talking about his training in Catterick and subsequent life working in the Royal Corps of Signals. When not working abroad, Ray was posted to the Signals base in Weald, which is in the SW area of Bampton. He and Sarah loved Bampton and bought a home here where they lived for the rest of their lives. One of his hobbies was being a Radio Ham and the second film is of Ray talking about this fascinating hobby. I strongly recommend watching both these films and reading the Eulogy. Ray wrote a book about the Royal Corps of Signals and their work when based in Bampton; it's available for sale in the Vesey room in the old Grammar School, Bampton, Oxfordshire. The Signals closed their base in September 1969 and it was taken over by the RAF and became RAF Bampton Castle.
