Scope and content

SIMON BASSETT 1669. Simon Bassett paid tax on five hearths in 1662 and 1665: in the former year he signed the tax returns as cons table. His will was proved in the Consistory Court on 2.6.1681 (Reg. A, 284 V): he is described in it as a fellmonger. Bequests are mode to two sons and four daughters, but, his wife is not mentioned : she may be presumed to have died between 1669 and 1681.
WALTER LARDNER. Two, if not three, men named Walter Lardner and described as chandlers are mentioned at Bampton about this period: possibly the token issuer was the one who died on 7.1.1702/3 aged 72. A Walter Lardner paid tax on four hearths in 1662 and on three in 1665.
JOHN TULL 1656. The only mention of John Tull found is in the Hearth tax list for 1665, when he paid on three hearths.
