Scope and content

Bell Cottage in Bell Lane is one of the oldest houses in Bampton. For several years it was used one day a week by a solicitor; I registered the birth of my second son there in 1974. The Village Hall used to be a pub called The Bell and the little lane behind it is known as 'back of the Bell' by long-time elderly locals and has now acquired the name of Bell Lane. The pub was bought in 1921 and turned into the WI Hall which about 20 years ago became the Village Hall. Bell Cottage is a Grade II listed building.
