This cutting from the Hereford Times February 4th 1983. John Phillips had the nickname 'The Cider Poet' because one of his most popular poems was about cider. He is buried in Hereford Cathedral and there is a monument to him in Westminster Abbey. He was born in Bampton in 1976 and his father was the Rev. Stephen Phillips Archdeacon of Shropshire.
