Scope and content

Frank Tanner, someties called Perky was the youngest son of 'Buscot' Tanner died at his home in Colvile Close aged 85 on November 10th 1980. Frank emigrated to Australia before WWI, was called up into the Australian Army in WWI and was so badly injured he spent a year in hospital in England recovering. The Australians thought he was dead and his name is on a war memorial in Australia. After WWI he married Ada and wanted her to go back to Australia with him but she was not going to spend months on a boat. Frank had to go back to Australia to be officially demobbed. The farmer who owned the sheep station where he'd worked prior to the outbreak of war had been putting Frank's money aside for him and he gave it to Frank for him to set up home in England with his new wife. He left one shilling in a bank account in Australia hoping that one day, he and Ada would go back there to live; that shilling is still out there somewhere. He came from a Morris dancing family and danced himself for several years . There is much more information in the newspaper cutting.
