Bampton had a cycle speedway team in 1952 which certainly lasted for two full seasons. Someone near the track complained about the noise so it was disbanded. The cycle speedway in New Road, circa 1952/3. The Bampton side was known as the Bampton Bullets. The track was where the fire station now stands.

Cycle speedway race in Bampton. Ron Amos was one of Bampton's leading lights in the team. A race on the Bampton track, now built on by the New Fire Station. Note the wooden slatted single-story buildings on the right which preceded 1-6 Manor View now built in stone. These wooden buildings were put up to house the American soldiers during WWII.
Ready to start a race; teams would have lanes 1 and 3 and 2 and 4 etc. Jack Lawrence is in mac in centre of the line-up.
Frank Hudson in 2nd place, Cyril Smith 3rd place. 1952-3 season.
