Scope and content

This is a collection of items all to do with the Royal British Legion. They include a photograph of the ladies circa late 1950s, Janette Keyte being crowned Carnival Queen in 1964, Janette again gamely being tipped out of a bed at the carnival, Bampton C of E School with their float at the carnival in 1986, newspaper cutting of the February 1968 AGM which state there were 102 fully paid up members, a newspaper clipping from July 5th 1972 covering the topics of the Women's Institute, the British Legion, the badminton club, numismatic society, Darby & Joan club and the school fete. A 1950 newspaper cutting covering the topics of a dance to raise funds for the football club, death of John Daniels one of our bowlers, a whist drive organised by Dor Thompson in aid of the Red Cross, a bridal peal for Betty Gifford Harris marrying John Joyce, British Legion women's section standard was dedicated in St Mary's by Rev Kelway with standard bearer Mrs J Horne. A letter from the Prince of Wales British Legion Pension fund to Mrs E B Green of Church View. Photograph of children in fancy dress for a carnival, photograph of children's tea party provided by the British Legion, January 1967 announcement of the death of Mrs Millicent Kate Birch a founder member and president of the women's section of the British Legion and was president of the WI for many years. A drama/pantomime by the WI called 'Aladdin and His Wives' with cast of Janet Elward, Audrey Court, Sylvia Barney, Barbara Molyneux, Joan Keate, Carol Boaden, Pat Rose, Marion Clark, Betty Griffiths, Barbara Peates, Lynne Rouse, Josephine Keate, Linda Smith, Sandra Pierce, Sylvia Hughes, Bernadette Walsh and Carol Hampton. Badges belonging to Dor Thompson ATS, Women's section British Legion and The Women's Farm and Garden Association.
