These 6 photographs were obtained from 6 x 4 inch negatives. The elderly man sitting at his table by the range is Daniel Gibbard who a blacksmith in Bampton. His smithy was on the site of present day Folly View, the red brick houses on the south side of the Market Square. The horses are on The Green by the church and were part of a huge horse fair that used to take place over two days near the end of August each year. Horses for sale by the church were considered suitable as pit ponies. Goodman's Tea dealers is in a very dilapidated state and was pulled down later in the year to make a carriageway entrance for Little Place off Cheapside; the gable end you can see on the very left is The George & Dragon Inn. Mr & Mrs Dewe are sitting at their table. Mr White in his smock owned Meadow Farm down the Buckland Road and lived at Ampney Lodge. He asked to be buried in his smock.
