Scope and content

Dr Alan Gaydon was a churchwarden at St Mary's for several years. He photographed the church from inside to out, ground level to the roof and recorded the restoration of the top of the spire and re-guilding of the cockerel on the top. Rev Andrew Scott was vicar at the time. In the gales of January 26th 1990 the figure of John The Baptist fell from the spire and embedded itself in the roof over the organ, filling the pipes with debris. Alan recorded the stages of the creation of a new figure of St John the Baptist which was then put at the base of the spire.
