Scope and content

A surprise General Election was called by Prime Minister Teresa May for June 8th 2017. She hoped to get an increased majority but after a truly dreadful campaign, she ended up dropping from a starting point of 27 points ahead of Labour to a hung Parliament and she had to do a deal with the N Ireland DUP - Democratic Unionist Party - to have a very slim working majority. In our area, Robert Courts Conservative got an increased majority which well and truly bucked the National trend. These articles cover the lead up to the General Election and the night of the count.
