Scope and content

This wonderful lady with the strong, capable looking hands was known as Granny Wiggins. She lived in Weald and collected rushes which she made into flag baskets for the men to carry their tools and lunch to work. They were circles of woven reeds up to 80 cms across with a handle on opposite sides. Men would lay their tools across the centre then gather up the handles in one hand. Made like that, any length of tool could be carried.
