This is a picture post card showing how bristles used to be burnt off a pig before butchering the carcass. The card was sent to Miss E Townsend at the Elephant & Castle Inn which her parents owned. While this was not taken at the Inn, Albert Townsend did raise pigs there and they were slaughtered and prepared for butchering just as in the post card.
