Sam Bennett of Ilmington dancing the broom dance. Sam used to walk from Ilmington and he stayed with Albert and Mary Elizabeth Townsend at Castle View Farm on Bridge Street. When he arrived, he used to announce “I be ‘ere.” He stayed on after Whitsun for a while helping on the farm to earn his keep and you can see him in one picture sharpening a scythe. There are two pictures of Sam doing the broom dance.
