Scope and content

This picture may have been taken at the very end of the 1890s but probably soon after 1900.

The hunt is meeting between the West side of the Town Hall and Rosemary House which is next to Constables the bakers shop. You can see the name Constable on the bread shop. Across the road in Bridge Street Duttons is still occupying the the first two windows only with railings outside what is now the Cake Element part of Duttons today.

Everyone is wearing a hat or cap of some sort, both riders and followers.

The horses' tails are all cut short; I don't know how far down tail bones go so can't say if the tails are docked or just the hair cut short.

The hounds look smaller than those used today, in fact they look more like Beagles.

I can't see any women on horseback and almost all the men are wearing bowler hats.
