She drove horse boxes when young then a Taxi in Bexhill and once WWII broke out she drove soldiers in a bus to airfields and factories and children to school. She got back to Witney and joined the Women's Land Army and after the war, settled in Bampton with her friend Margaret Howse and became a very successful driving instructor. After her retirement Hilda decorated the foyer of the Bush Club every Wednesday, she trekked to base camp on Everest and did a sky-dive to raise funds when aged 90.
