The majority of the outside scenes filmed for Downton Abbey have been done in Bampton, using St Mary The Virgin Church, the house next door called Church Gate House the home of the fictional Mrs Crawley, the Old Grammar School with its entrance being used as the entrance to the Cottage Hospital and several other houses very close to the church.
