Scope and content

There must have been a previous newspaper article suggesting the clock on the Town Hall was 100 years old. The stone tablet let into the east side of the wall clearly shows it was put up in 1908 making it 63 years old in 1971. It was Mrs Moss, the daughter of Oliver Onesipherous Collett who saw the '100' years bit in the paper which prompted her to write in. Her father was a jeweler and garage proprietor and built Bampton's first car, the Voiturette, in 1901. He had many talents - do look at entry number 2017.746 to read about one of them. Philip Southby did much for Bampton in the 40 years he lived here, in Bampton House.
