Scope and content

Alan Clarke, the landlord of the Horse Shoe died suddenly on Monday evening. Alan was a great supporter of many events in Bampton; his pub was the headquarters of the Bampton Traditional Morris Men; he was instrumental in helping to raise money for the Bell at the Memorial Garden in Carterton which is struck at each repatriation; he sold copies of Mel Starr's books on behalf of the Archive; many organisations used his pub for meetings and the 'search for an inn' at the Christmas Nativity always got a warm welcome. Each morning Alan could be seen sitting in the window reading his paper but also seeing everything that went on in Bampton; he was a great source of local news.
