Scope and content
In 1994 the church bells of St Mary The Virgin were silent while the top of the spire was repaired. The weather vane cockerel was re-gilded at the same time. The round ball of concrete in which the weather vane was seated was removed and a new one put in its place. The old one went into the garden at Cobb House and is now (2019) the centre piece of a delightful pond. The vicar at the time, seen standing by the cockerel was Rev. Andrew Scott. There is a picture of the two steeplejacks, taking a break sitting on the bench by the south church gate.
