Scope and content

In July 2007 Bampton was hit by almost 6 inches of rain in less than 24 hours. Much of the village was flooded. Roy Shergold's home was inundated very suddenly. He told me that if Mary had still been alive, because she had to sleep downstairs he thought she would have drowned before he could have disconnected her from her oxygen supply and carried her out or upstairs.

Through all the misery of being flooded out, Roy never lost his smile but the smile when the re-fit began was even bigger. He was a dear man missed dreadfully by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
