Scope and content

As an 11 year old boy, John Lester came to visit the Busby family in 1938 at harvest time. The Busby family owned the shop in the High Street in Bampton. John sent us his scanned copies of his family, the Busby family and himself as a young boy and these are the first two pages. The other items refer to the Busby shop - they include a photograph showing the name over the shop, en entry in a ledger for work done there dated 1908. Harold Busby was killed in WWII and the is a photograph of his grave stone - the family chose to have him buried in the family plot and not with the war graves - and an account of Harold and others killed in the war by Vera Elward. There is a newspaper account of the wedding of the only daughter of the Busby family Miss Dora M Busby and an advert for the shop.
