Scope and content

This is the only department store that has ever been in Bampton and it sold anything and everything from lino to material, bolts of cloth, men's and women's clothing, footwear and much more and it also housed the Post Office.
Today, the part of the shop across Bushey Row is The Pottery Shop but since it was part of the department store it has been a hairdresser's, video rental shop, twee garden items for sale, a Physiotherapy Shop and is now (2021) a Pottery Shop.
Coming towards the camera the thatched building is now called Strawberry Cottage and has been a private dwelling since 1970 along with the house next to it which is called Lesta House.
Closer still to the camera is a dwelling today called No7 High Street but in this picture the name Bampton Post Office can be seen above the window.
Across the road is the New Inn which had a name change by the brewery to The Morris Clown in 1973, much to the disgust of locals because the Morris dancer is always called the Morris Fool and not the Morris Clown, however he may choose to dress.
