Scope and content
The article is about Bampton in general but the writer, Peter Sykes of Oxford Times collected a ghost story while in Bampton. He talks about the reduction in men working the land and working locally. Marjorie Pollard commented that there were 104 council houses most built in the last 6 or 7 years. He mentions Morris dancing, the Shirt Race, and 83 year old Mr Chandler who had worked at his premises in the Market Square for 50 years as a saddler and leather worker who used to look after 900 horses. Mr Money is a shoe maker as well as a repairer. He met Mr Roderick Blaine who had been landlord of the Talbot for just 8 weeks and had discovered there was a ghost there.
