Scope and content

In September 2008 Graham Newman put together an interesting exhibition about Oliver Onesipherous Collett who was a shop keeper, watch maker and repairer but he also built a car in 2001-2 which he called the Bampton Voiturette. The car was seen as a posh man's plaything at the very start of the 1900s and the depression in 2007 meant Mr Collett chose to dismantle his Voiturette. However, he kept the motor and used to recharge batteries people took to his workshop. His shop was on the corner in Cheapside next to Cromwell House going towards the Market Square (now called Exeter House); he took over Cromwell House to extend his working and living accommodation.
