'One Hour To Dusk' was a thriller performed before the interval and the light-hearted 'Poor Mr Shakespeare' afterwards, by the Bampton WI Drama Group produced by Hilda Pickard.

This article appeared in the Memory Lane section of the Witney Gazette March 4th 2015. It recalls a time when local residents lost patience waiting for Oxfordshire County Council to organise cleaning of the road-sides.

Frank Purslow was not only an excellent melodeon player, he taught many local people as well. He also had a wonderful catalogue of music gathered throughout his life. It was shocking to see it all put outside the gate of his house after his death for the bin men to pick up. A little was rescued but the vast majority was thrown away. The letter from Frank shown here was a follow-on from one sent the week before and the text will explain all.

This pathway is now grassed over, which is perhaps, a pity. It runs from the gate on the south side of St Mary's up to the Norman door.

To the right of Cromwell House as seen from the road is The Old Forge, which was as its name suggests the site of a forge at one time but is now a private house, partly in Cheapside and partly in Church Street.

Dr Alan Cole was in the practice in Bampton for many years. In this picture you can see his on-call alarm in his top pocket.

This picture was taken in 1971 and shows the canteen at RAF Bampton Castle in Weald just before the kitchen closed for the first time. Helping himself to lunch is Cyril Cawser, father of Myra and Caroline. He was a civilian working there in the Met Office department.
