This picture shows the spire of St Mary The Virgin Church in Bampton seen across Sandford field. It was taken early in the twentieth century. Today, a hedge obscures the view of the houses in the foreground but not all still exist.
This article is about the AGM of the Bampton with Clanfield and Aston, Lew and Shifford church AGM. The vicar was Rev. Andrew Scott and this was his first year here. Alan Keef was elected secretary. Hilda Pickard was electoral roll keeper, Tim Bryce was treasurer and reported a 40% increase in parish share. A report of the diocesan synod was given by Ruby Riches and of the Mothers' Union by Mrs Betty Cooper. Churchwardens elected were Aston - Mr P Hook and Mr A Keef Bampton - Mrs Hilda Pickard and Mr Norman Gregory Clanfield - Mr P Horne and Mr Fred Farmer Lew - Mr Charles Radclyffe and Mrs Olive Gush Shifford - Mrs Betty Cooper and Mr Tim Bryce.
St Mary The Virgin Steeple can be seen very clearly from Sandford Field. There are more cottages between the field and the church than exist today. The one on the left is Sandford and has been much enlarged since this picture was taken.

This newspaper cutting is from April 1st 1983. The anniversary of the Women's League was celebrated by joining with the Mothers' Union for prayers and a celebration tea. The PTA held a bazaar and raised £75 for their funds which in 1983 was a good amount of money. The same day head teacher Malcolm Mason took some of the school's boy to Wembley to see the schoolboys' match against Germany. The wives club monthly meeting had a special speaker called Mr Blue who talked about colour in the home; he had previously worked on the interior of Blenheim Palace.
The Wedding Neil O'Brien & Sarah Bisp September 27th 2003. The gathering is on Church Green on the south side of Saint Mary's. Di O'Brien is Neil's mother and was school secretary in Bampton for many years.
