Leslie grew up in Bampton where his father , Jack Harrison , was a butcher for many years. His first butcher's shop was in Pear Tree Cottage in the High Street and he moved from there to run his shop in the right hand side of what became Adrian Simmond's shop, on the Market Square.
Together with Paul Bovington, John Quick founded SPAJERS in 1953 as a 'one-off event ' to celebrate the Queen's coronation. Following the passing of John, a flowering cherry tree was planted in his memory in the grounds of the War Memorial. In the photos can be seen Edie, John's widow, together with his son Kenny. Also representing the SPAJERS are Don Rouse and Frank Hudson.
Mrs Bliss, widow of Colonel Bliss, spent her remaing days at Bampton House. Percy Bowerman was her chauffeur and would drive her around the village in her green Morris Minor. When she died, Percy inherited the Morris Minor.

Arthur started the timber business in Brize Norton selling second hand timber from Brize Norton air force base when it was run by the Americans. Miss Margaret Oates was the eldest daughter of Dr and Mrs Oates. She was a founder member of the Bampton Women's Institute, took a keen interest in folk dancing and was a pioneer of the Bampton Folk Dance Society. Miss Dorothy Oates died aged 80 on March 24th the same day as Miss Brooks who had been companion to Dorothy and her sister Margaret. Dorothy was a member of the Women's Institute. The funeral of Miss Oates and Miss Brooks took place on the same day Thursday March 27th at St Mary's in Bampton, service conducted by Rev. 2004 Programme for the Donkey Derby, annual event held on August Bank Holiday and organised by the SPAJERS. Proceeds from this go to the senior citizens of Bampton and used to provide a monetary Christmas gift and possible summer outing. The Donkeys are ridden by children in races, which are sponsored by local businesses and bets are made on the winners. Held in Sandford's Field with accompanying Fete.
