Downton Abbey was being filmed in Bampton again in April 2014. Most of the actors are very obliging, willing talking with the younger generation and several Bampton people are extras.
Prize winning bangers made by a village butchers have taken on a whole new level of fame after being endorsed by Downton Abbey stars. The Bampton Royal pork sausages, produced on site at Patrick Strainge Butchers, were feasted on by the cast
Dr Alan Cole came to practice in Bampton in 1959 and was here long enough to have in some cases, looked after three generations of a family. He was 90 in 2020.
Dr Alan Gaydon was a churchwarden at St Mary's for several years. He photographed the church from inside to out, ground level to the roof and recorded the restoration of the top of the spire and re-guilding of the cockerel on the top.
