Properties in Mercury Close had been empty for quite some time since they were no longer used by personnel from USAF based at Fairford. Local MP Douglas Hurd came to see the vandalism to the properties.

Witney Gazette May 28th 2014.The Campaign to Protect Rural England says the assessed need to build 100,000 new homes in the next 15 years was "cobbled together" and is exaggerated.

Campaigners have condemned the xo-called 'no win no fee' policy of a developer behind plans for more than 700 homes on sites across Oxfordshire. 446 are planned for sites in West Oxfordshire. Sites are in Witney and Bampton.

The council in August 2014 was still updating its local plan and that has left the whole area open to speculators to build large estates in areas that are known by locals to flood and where local doctors' surgeries are already so full it can take 3 weeks to get an appointment.
