In 1947 no girls were allowed in the choir at St Mary's which was quite normal in most churches at that time. In the summer of 1947 these 9 choirboys were taken on an outing to Southsea as a treat.

A milk churn stand outside Weald Farm in Weald Street, a left-over from the days when milk was collected in churns and not a bulk tanker.

The first Shirt Race in Bampton was run to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and it's been run every year on the Saturday

Olive McCage was born and grew up in Bampton; she was a typist at Brize Norton air base where she met a young American, married him and she emigrated to the USA when his tour of duty here was over.

Bampton had a brass band in the very early days of the twentieth century. The picture of them playing outside the Town Hall, taken in 1908 was kindly lent to the Archive by Barbara Daw.
