Dr Alan Gaydon was churchwarden at St Mary The Virgin for several years and during his tenure the gales of January 25th 1990 blew the stature of John The Baptist off the base of the spire.

This is a photograph of the Horse Fair taken outside the Wheat Sheaf Inn in Bridge Street. Note the man collecting the horse manure off the road which was prized in all vegetable gardens.
Two happy children with their dog playing in the Highmoor Brook off Cheyne Lane. Sadly the vegetation has encroached from both sides of the slipway making access to the water very narrow.
