Scope and content

William Kimber, who played for Heading Quarry was a friend of Bampton Morris. His side danced at Mrs Birch's Sandfield Cottage in Headington and her son-in-law was staying. Cecil Sharp was transfixed with what he heard and with the help of William, he wrote down the music and dance steps of traditional English dances which resulted ultimately in Cecil Sharp House in London, home of the EFDSS (English Folk Dance and Song Society) having a record of much dance and music. https://jadn.co.uk/w/WilliamKimber.htm for more on William Kimber who although not a Bampton man was very important in the history of Morris dancing in England
